It is so hard to believe that 3 years have gone by! Three years ago today, we arrived home in the morning to a huge welcoming group and TV crew. We were on the news because it was the Friday before Mother's Day and 3 families were bringing home baby boys from Vietnam! Little did we know that when we began our first adoption journey that 3 families would all live in the same area, get to know each other through our agency's Vietnam Forum and we would then all travel 1/2 way around the world to meet 3 little boys that are only 1-2 months apart. And these 3 little boys who were in an orphanage waiting for a family, would all end up in the same city just miles apart. This journey brought us together for life! I love these families, we spent 3 weeks together depending on each other, figuring out the journey to parenthood together in a foreign land. We had fun times and tough times and we made it through together.
When adopting a child, there are many milestones you will never forget. When you first started the process, when you officially went on the waiting list, the first time you saw that precious face, when you "got the call" but the days that are really big for our family are the day we became a family and the day we arrived home. Not to discount the other milestones, but these are the ones that make me the most nostaligic. I could not love this little boy more than I do right now! He is the greatest blessing of my life! We have a special bond, I am his mother!
Everytime I think of these milestones, I think of a sweet woman on the other side of the world who gave birth to this sweet little boy and made the ultimate sacrifice. She gave her little boy up to save his life! He was sick and she was too. She was living on the streets and didn't have a way to care for her little boy. She loved him so much, she brought him to the orphanage so he could have a forever family. She was happy he was going to America. I hope she knows he is SO loved and well protected. We are taking very good care of her special gift.
