My mom was in town, she was coughing and not feeling well. Mark had left town for his training for the new store. Sunday morning, Dylan woke up with a temp, gave him motrin and it went down. We decided we would skip Sunday school and just go to church. We were running a bit late, driving to church, Dylan was in the back coughing up a lung, Mom was in the front doing the same. I finally said...what are we doing. I turned around, took my mom to the after-hour clinic. She needed some medicine. Come to find out, she had a sinus infection. So, she too was on an antibiotic.
After we got that all settled, we decided to go get something to eat. We headed to Applebees. We were sitting there, our food was close to being at the table, and suddenly, Dylan started shaking, and teeth chattering. I have never seen anyone get the chills like that. He did this for about 10 min and we decided to take our food to go. We went to the car and he was still shaking pretty bad. We headed home. For over 30 min, he kept shaking, we couldnt' get it to stop. Normal instinct is to wrap him up....BIG mistake! I was able to get a bit of motrin in him but his fever kept climbing. At 106.7, we stuck him in the tub. He started throwing up and crying. It was just awful. At one point, he looked totally out of it. There was just a glazed look on his face, it scared me to death. We finally got his temp down a bit and took off for the ER. This clearly was not an ear infection. I had called the on-call doc, but he hadn't called back yet and I was tired of waiting. Someone needed to tell me what was wrong!
THREE HOURS laters....we found out it was Influenza Type A (Respiratory Flu) So we went home to ride it out. Sunday was awful, we couldn't keep any fluid in the child, but he did get better, he is well now....of course...another EAR infection!!!! But, all better. Needless to say...if I had been by myself, don't think I would have been as calm. So on to other news.
- House still for sale, no takers, enough said.
- Mom and Dad put their house on the market, no takers yet.
- Dad, Stephen, and Mark went to their training for the new store. They are waiting to hear if their location has been approved so they can get started on opening. They are hoping for a summer opening or beginning of Sept at the latest.
- Dylan's favorite show is Super Why! He still loves Elmo, but the kid can't take his eyes off the whole 30 min. show of Super Why. He is glued to it. He really gets into it. When Super Why comes on the screen, Dylan puts his fist in the air. Every once in a while through the show, you will see him raise him arms up in the air. It really is cute. In fact, yesterday morning, he was watching it as we were getting ready (we have DVR'd about 10 episodes). I wanted him to put on his clothes and I was talking along with AlphaPig, Dylan looked at me, smiled and put his finger to his lips basically telling me to shut up! I got "shhh'ed" by a 1 year old! Very funny. (At least for now, if he does it too much, I will start getting irritated.)
- This week I discovered he knows several of his letters. Keep in mind, he is still a man of few words, but my friend gave us several letter books, I had them all laying out on the floor. Dylan pointed to the I book and said....IIIIIIII (real drawn out). I thought, no way...that is just his word he says, or maybe he is pointing to the bug's eye on the book. I decided to test and see. I started asking him, "where is the G". He pointed to it. He kept doing that to several letters. I was floored. In the bath tub, we have the foam letters that stick to the tub, I put up 10 letters, he identified 9 out of the 10. I am totally shocked! I guess he is learning the letters as well tell them to him. You never really think about what all your are teaching your kids when you are just doing normal everyday things. Even being a teacher, I was still shocked.
- He knows several letters, he can pick out red, blue, green, yellow, orange. He can point to many animals (i mean...flamingo, penguin, give me a break...he knows them). I know Ms. Kim as been working on numbers and shapes...so who knows what all this child knows. He totally comprehends everything we tell him. When he is not being stubborn, he does it.
- He has started nodding his head yes, nice change of pace from the usual no.
- He is eating with a fork and spoon. He has trouble getting some of the food onto the spoon or fork, but he does a pretty good job and is still not a very messy eater, he never has been. He doesn't like food on his face, his hands and shirt would be ok...but not the face.
- Even though he is not saying much, he is starting to babble more, so maybe we are close to talking? When you point out a cow, he sometimes will moo, when you point to a dog, or he hears the dog outside in the backyard across the fence, he will pant (stick out tongue like a dog.)
- He is totally getting good at manipulating his daddy. When he wants something like to be held and his daddy wants to put him down, he will hug him and go, aww…so of course daddy can’t resist.
- When he talks (ok, so not really talk, listen) on the phone to daddy, nana, or papa, he will hug them, by putting his head against the phone and saying (hmmmm).
- He is starting to kiss, hug, and blow kisses without being asked to.
We went to Sesame Street Live this afternoon. He LOVED it. It was so funny, the first 10 min, his eyes were open so wide, I don't think he blinked! Then he started bouncing and dancing. We were right up on the stage and characters would walk by us and pat him on the head. He thought it was awesome. He laughed and waved to them all. The only time he seemed a little unsure is when Cookie Monster came up, took both his hands in his and Dylan kind of shook his head no, like ...I don't think so. It was too funny. See the pics! We loved it. The pics are from my phone, so they aren't that great.

So what kind of store is it? I'm so glad your mom was there to help you when your baby was so sick. That would have scared me to pieces, too.
Amy H.
I am so glad that Dylan is feeling better. There is nothing worse than your kid being sick.
I think that we were at the same show! Too bad we didn't know it - we could have had dinner together! Luke absolutely loved it. Y'all had really good seats. We were about five rows up and we thought they were good seats. I was afraid that if we sat on the floor and weren't on the front row that Luke wouldn't be able to see.
WOW, that sounds like it was a pretty terrifying experience! I am so glad Dylan is feeling better! We had "B" at our house, but luckily little sister didn't get it. I can't imagine a baby with the flu! The winter has been hard on us too. I can't WAIT until Spring!!!
Good luck with the house and the store!
I'm so glad that Dylan is doing better! We also had the flu - I can't imagine how scared you must've been, 'cause Will's fever hit 103.5 and I was totally freaked. Horrible! I'm still crusading for that sick-bug bomb for all of OKC! Thank goodness spring is almost here!
So scary! When Ava was about the same age we rushed her to the ER because of the exact same thing...ultra high temp and listlessness. (her dx was pneumonia and double ear infections.) I'm so relieved to hear he doing better now.
Sounds like things are going well. Love the pics!!
Lucy was diagnosed with type A flu last night at the er. Blah! No fun! She finally seems to be feeling better today after a week of being told it was just a resperatory infection despite the 103.5 average temp. Glad Dylan's doing better now!
