It's Official

Well, I was so excited about the smile that I forgot to post anything about yesterday. We got up in the morning, early. We are all messed up on our schedule. We go to sleep anywhere between 7-8 pm and get up by 5:30. Of course given the fact that the sun rises (fully) by 5:30 am and sets by 7 doesn't help. So we got up, went to breakfast and left for the orphanage.
We were so nervous, all of us. We were more nervous than when we went for the first time. We couldn't believe that this was the day. We arrived and went upstairs. They handed the babies to us and all of them started crying. It was almost as if they knew.

One thing that really got to all of us was one of the nannies was crying. It made all the women start crying. I even saw a few of the men tear up. They really love these babies, which is so wonderful. I was able to take a picture of Dylan and the nannie that he seems closest to. You can see she was crying. I know they will miss these boys so much.

Interestingly enough, Can Tho does not do a G&R ceremony. So the nannies dressed the boys in traditional celebration outfits called Ao Doi. (think that is how you spell it) They looked so sweet, but hot! Dylan does NOT like to be hot.

We were all so excited to see them dressed in those outfits. They handed the boys to us and we left. Not one single tear out of any of the boys. You should have seen them. They were looking around all wide eyed! They were soaking in all of the sights! We don't think they had ever been out of their 2 little rooms. Probably stay pretty much in their little bedroom. I would say they spend a lot of time in bed because Dylan's head is pretty flat in the back.

We left the orphanage and drove to the local justice department. It was just the 4 families, Thomas, Minh, Tranh, the Orphanage director, and the head nannie. We went into a room and one at a time, each family sat down with a lady. She looked at our passports, looked at the child, then handed us papers to sign. We signed and then we left. That was it. We all went back to the bus and started the long drive back to Ho Chi Minh City. When I say long.....I mean LONG! The boys did great, we didn't have any crying at all. In fact, they all took a little nap. Nice thing is the orphanage gave us a package of diapers, a bottle with formula, and a little bottle of water. That really helped with the ride home. You will all be happy to know, that with my first diaper change....I got peed on! :) Actually he went all over the seat, I was able to deflect it!

(If you notice, he is a little thumb sucker! He is so cute, he puts the thumb in his mouth, kind of upside down....then he is out.)
When we took the ferry back across, they let the mommies and babies stay on the bus, but the dads had to walk. It was blistering hot and there was a long line. We felt so sorry for the guys, but very grateful that we didn't have to take the babies out in the mess. There are so many motorbikes and people...it is crazy.
When we finally arrived we were all so exhausted and hot, that we just went up to our rooms. They guys went to the market to buy diapers, snacks, water, and babyfood. They boys are all on formula and rice cereal. They haven't had any other food. So we are going to start introducing some food to Dylan....he is tiny, he needs to beef up! We called my parents, and showed them through the web cam how cute their grandson is. He fell asleep at about 7 and we were out at 8. He slept through the night until about 3:00. I gave him a bottle and he slept about another 1 1/2 hours. We all woke up at 5:15. We went to breakfast, the guys went to process passports. When they returned, we took the boys to have their passport photo made. Dylan did really well....no smile....but didn't cry.

He is teething like crazy. He has been very clingy today, cries anytime we put him down. I gave him tylenol before breakfast, then about 12:00 I gave him some motrin and teething tablets. Then he perked up and was laughing and playing. We got some GREAT video!!! He is so funny. He will be all serious, then have a bout of laughter and playing...then boom....serious again. He is a thinker. He is constantly looking around checking things out. Since he as been feeling pretty crummy, we are staying in today. Right now, Dylan is napping with daddy, while daddy watches tv!

Jennifer, you will be happy to know, that American Idol comes on tonight out here! I might get to see it, if I can stay up that is! Well, more tomorrow. We love the comments and miss everyone so much! We can't wait to bring our little guy home! You will all LOVE him!

Congratulations Mommy and Daddy! We are so proud for you! I know you are enjoying every precious moment. I hate it that the nannies were hurting, but it is comforting to know how much they care. How hard would that be?
If others are like us, they are all glued to your blog. It is the topic of conversation with Jenni, Syndi, and me. I asked Larry if he wanted to read it this morning, and he said "Yes...I am into this, now". So, he is right there with us. I am glad you are describing everything...I almost feel like we are there ...(minus the heat.)
We had thunderstorms here yesterday. Do you think he has ever heard thunder?
By the way,I will be interested to see if you actually watched American Idol.

What an exciting day! I'm glad you finally got to write about it. I thought of you last night when Lost was on and wondered if you were able to watch that as well! (I'm sure you've DVR'd it anyway - you'll have lots of catching up to do when you get back!)

Dylan looks so happy with you and Mark. I can't tell you how thrilled I am that it's "official!" I showed B & L the pictures last night, and they asked when they can meet Dylan! They love his smile and his big brown eyes.

Get all the rest you can, and keep posting! We miss you!

Congratulations on moving from two to THREE! Wow! Baby Dylan is finally YOURS! He is so adorable and I love the traditional Vietnamese dress!

Teething is the pits! However, isn't it interesting that his teeth are beginning to come in now that YOU have him! That happened to us with Owen as well. Another adoptive family told me that God is going to let you see and experience all of the things that you need to. Since that is such a big milestone in a babies life - you can't miss it!
We are so glad that you are sharing each step of your story with us. We enjoy seeing the pictures of Dylan and of Vietnam. Please continue to post as often as possible!

Sending cyber hugs!

So happy you're official! Sounds like things are going well. I can't wait to hear about the rest of your time in Vietnam. Dylan is ADORABLE!

Congrats! That is so cool that they dressed the boys in traditional dress.
I can so sympathize with not being able to stay awake past 8 and waking up so early. We had been there for almost 2 weeks before that changed.

What a great experience you'll never forget! We were just in Vietnam 4 weeks ago getting our 1 year old boy. He had the exact same sleeping schedule as Dylan. Thought you might like to know once we got home and settled, Rocco started sleeping all through the night. It's amazing how well they adjust. I'm sure it will be the same with your beautiful boy!

Mark and Kim: Oh my gosh, we are so very, very happy for you both. Look into your eyes, it tells the whole story. You have been so very blessed with this new little guy and he with you. Hurray! Hurray! As for feeding Dylan, do they have avocados there? Avery LOVES them, they are easily digestible, lots of nutrients and high in fat. No wonder guacamole is so darn good! Love you and thrilled for you.

It was so good to hear how things went. I was wondering. I am just so anxious to see you and your new little boy! I miss you so much! My mom is now hooked on American Idol. I keep telling her that this isn't the best season, but she doesn't know the difference. She is hooked until the end now. It is nice to have her to watch with since you are gone. Although, I missed last night. If you caught it, you'll have to tell me how it was. If you didn't catch the result show tonight, it was pretty good, long, but good. Nobody was voted off though. They will vote off two next week. But, none of this is as important as holding and looking at your baby boy. I bet American Idol isn't on your list of priorities. That's why we missed it last night - playing with Brayden took all our attention!! You are just going to love being a MOM!!!
Love ya,
Jennifer

Congratulations. I keep checking your blog hoping for updates and pictures.

I can sympathize with the teething thing. We, unfortunately, forgot to take teething tables to India with us when we adopted Ian. Once we got home, they saved my life. Those are amazing little tablets.

Post when you can.
