I can't believe it, my little boy is 1 year old today! We had a great party on Saturday. It was a lot of fun and of course he got tons of toys. We need to invest in a bigger toy box. My living room is over run with JUNK! He did really well at the party, he was a little over stimulated with all the people and excitement. I am not sure he understands what all was happening, but he sure had a good time getting messy with the cake.
Everything is going well, he is still making progress. Friday we went to the doctor for shots and bloodwork. That was NOT fun! He got 5 shots!!! He screamed bloody murder. I guess he didn't understand why nurse Leslie was torturing him. He likes her, but I am not sure how he feels about her right now. After that ordeal, we headed down the hall for a chest x-ray. He just lay on the table so still. Just checking out the machine. (Dylan is a deep thinker and studies everything.) After that, time for blood work. This is the part that just about killed this mama. They stuck him in the arm and nothing. They dug around and he just screamed and screamed. He was sitting in my lap, so he couldn't see me...he just kept crying...ma, ma, ma. Daddy was trying to keep his attention, but didnt' work. Finally a little blood started to trickle out...but stopped. They told us to go to lunch, have a bottle and come back!!! ARE you kidding me! Get him calmed down, relaxed and come back? Now that is torture. Daddy wanted to go home so he could rest...I said, nope, lets get this over with. So we went to McDonalds, ate, had a bottle, drank some water and headed back. We got in there and they couldn't get a vein. So they went to the heel. So sad. He just cried and cried. They kept squeezing, it was terrible. They tried to get as much blood as they could. The really bad part is, if they didn't get enough, they are going to call us tomorrow and we will have to go back in to draw more blood. This mama's heart can't take that.
We are getting pictures made this week, can't wait for those. We don't have any big plans other than that. Grandma (Mark's mom) was in town for the party. This was the first time to meet Grandma. They had fun together. He started something new this week. He likes to stick out his tongue. I think he learned it from Daddy. Now, if you stick your tongue out, he will do the same. He is turning into quite the copy cat. We are going to have to be careful!!!
All day today, I can't thinking about Dylan's birthmom. I wondered if she was thinking about him, wondering about him and if she was sad. I felt a little sad thinking about it. I can't imagine how she must feel. Especially, since I know what she had to give up. He is a wonderful child and I know she did the best thing for him. I for one cannot appreciate her enough, but it must just tear her heart in two. Amazing lady.
Not much else going on, we are just having a good time together, he loves his mama and daddy. He is a very good baby and pretty happy boy. It is really rare that we hear him cry, unless we are leaving him alone. (like in his bed, in Sunday school class, etc.) I left him in class this morning and about 20 min in, I was paged. I could hear him in the hall. He was going ballistic. When I walked in, he stopped and grabbed me for dear life. I calmed him down, kissed him and sat with him for a bit. Then when I had a chance, I decided to sneak out. Didn't make it 5 min before I was paged again. This time, he kept a tight hold on my shirt. He wasn't letting me go. I of course wasn't about to leave him again. That is just too sad. Strange thing is....last time we took him he did just fine...didn't even know I was gone. Oh, well, we will try again next week.
Here is the birthday slide show...you might want to get popcorn...it is a LONG one!

Happy Birthday Zak!!!!
Love the pictures. Isn't being a mom just the best?
HAPPY BIRTHDAY DYLAN! It looks like he really enjoyed the cake!
Happy Birthday Dylan!! What a fun time! It looks like it was a wonderful celebration. Just think next year he will be running all over the place!
Happy Birthday Dylan! Watch out Mom & Dad - he's standing so well at that activity table, he'll be walking soon! :)
Don't worry too much about the church nursery thing. One year old is a normal time for kids to flip-flop between staying happily and screaming like crazy - even without all the fruit-basket-upset of little Dylan's life! Hard to say if it's adoption stuff or just kiddo stuff, but it sure is good to know that Mama can already make it all better! :)
Happy Birthday!!!
I loved the video below as well.
