We celebrated Tet (Vietnamese New Year) a little late. We went to Kerrie and Joey's house last night. Kathryn and Dusty were there as well. Kerrie did a great job! The house looked great, it was all decorated with dragons and lanterns everywhere!

There were a few things we sampled that I did NOT like! Take for instance, the Banh Chung (New Years Rice Cakes) This is a Tet tradition. I really did not like this. Needless to say, we all tried some and we pretty much threw away the whole thing. In fact, I didn't even swallow it. NOT good. Kerrie and Kathryn went to the Vietnamese Market, so we also tried roasted watermelon seeds and coconut candy. The seeds didn't have much taste but the candy was really good.
We even tried some authentic Vietnamese food. Mark drove down to the Asian District in Oklahoma City. We were looking for Pho and spring rolls. Well, we ended up with 2 chicken spring roll dinners. I must say, I actually liked the dinners.

He did locate some Beef Pho. It wasn't too bad. I think if it is served to you very hot, and maybe you leave out some of the stuff, it might be pretty good. I wasn't too wild about the broth, but I could eat Pho. I will say, we did end up getting rid of a lot of it. Kerrie made Sweet and Sour Chicken (Americanized version!) It was VERY good! So, needless to say, we just sampled some of the food.

It was fun to experience the culture, learn about the traditions and think about how fun it will be next year to share this experience with our boys! We stayed VERY late, played games, got to know each other better and had a great time!
We hope to hear some news this week. At the end of the week our Vietnam Director is returning home from Vietnam. She should have news and pictures. So everyone please pray for REALLY good news. We are all ready to travel!

I don't think I've laughed that much in a long, long time. All this waiting really takes something out of you, doesn't it?! Thanks for coming...Can't wait until next time...WITHOUT the authentic food! ;) Thanks also for the book! I almost took a picture of it for the site too...come to think of it, I still might!
Love you guys! Can't wait to travel....in MARCH!
Ker
That sounds like a lot of fun!! I have to admit I am a bit jealous that all three of you are that close to experience this together. What a blessing!! :) I'm also hoping you travel in March!!! Good news will be coming your way very soon.
BTW: We have been to a VN restaurant twice and I have yet to eat anything I like. Each time I had to go get a BIG ice cream cone.
Sounds like you guys had a wonderful time. And even if the food didn't taste very good, it still LOOKS really good. We eat Vietnamese occasionally and there is VERY little that I actually like.
Wish we could have been there to celebrate with you, but it looks like you guys had a great time. I am with Kerrie I am still hoping to travel in March. Hopefully we will hear something soon. We have to hear something soon. Love you guys!
I think it's so cool that you guys threw your own TET party. I told Kerrie that next year we should get the Tulsa and OKC families together. Can you imagine all those kids running around together??
